Mohamed Salah received an incomplete ending at the 2021 CAN Cup when the Egyptian team lost to Senegal in the final.

The 2021 CAN Cup championship has identified its owner: the Senegal team. Sadio Mane and his teammates beat Mohamed Salah’s Egypt team after a penalty shootout with a total score of 4-2. This is also the first time, the Senegal team won the Africa Cup of Nations.

Striker Salah continued to miss his appointment with the throne when the Pharaohs fell after a lucky penalty shootout. Mohamed Abdelmonem and Mohanad Lasheen are two Egyptian players who missed the penalty kick. On the Senegal side, Bouna Sarr was a player who missed his kick.

Salah is Egypt’s fifth penalty kick option. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old striker did not have the opportunity to stand in front of 11m when Mane successfully made the decisive kick, helping Senegal win the CAN Cup.

Salah finished second at the 2021 CAN Cup.

Commenting on the Egyptian team’s penalty shootout order, former player Jamie Carragher shared: “That’s why the team’s best 11m kicker should not be 5th in the penalty shootout order. Salah doesn’t. The penalty shootout for the home team in the final was really crazy.”

This scenario happened to Cristiano Ronaldo many years ago when Portugal faced Spain,” commented Carragher. Journalist Sid Lowe asked Carragher whether the fifth penalty kicker needed the ability to handle pressure, the former Liverpool player replied:

“That’s the theory. The coach will choose a player who can handle it well when under pressure. I care if it’s the coach’s decision or the player himself.”
