Summer 2021, the Red Devils announced the official appointment of Eric Ramsay to the first team coaching staff. Ramsay’s job is to practice 1 vs 1 abilities, and strategize in fixed situations. However, he was fiercely criticized by fans, because of Man Utd’s poor scoring performance in dead balls.

The Old Trafford team just got their first goal from a corner, scored by Harry Maguire, in the 4-2 win over Leeds United not long ago. The Man Utd captain also admitted to feeling “embarrassed” because after nearly 140 corners, they only converted into goals. Ramsay is therefore blamed by fans.

Ramsay is a contract made by Solskjaer.

However, recently, technical director Darren Fletcher said: “People only raise the problem of scoring goals from the fix phase.

The biggest reason Ramsay was appointed was because we conceded too many goals from set pieces . We’ve really improved our defense from synergies and free-kicks this season. Eric Ramsay is a great coach.”

In the 2020/21 campaign, Man Utd conceded 14 goals from set pieces in the Premier League, accounting for more than 31% of the total number of goals conceded by the whole team. While this season, they have only received 5 goals from similar balls. Obviously, Ramsay contributed significantly in improving the defense.
